Chef Char Zyskowski
Char
followed her passion when she enrolled at San Francisco's prestigious California
Culinary Academy after a long career in marketing and sales. Her husband, Marty,
and Char share five great kids...and when they were all through college, she
decided the time was perfect to follow her dream of "cooking her life away!"
Char's heart skipped a beat when she walked into the culinary
school at CCA. This was the place. Leaving her job and sweet husband for almost
two years, she enrolled to acquire her culinary credentials.
She expanded her experience through her work at a bay area catering
company while attending school and working in restaurant kitchens part-time.
She also had the honor of working with Jacques Pepin in San Francisco's Public
Television's "back-stage kitchen" during the filming of Jacques
Pepin's Kitchen, Cooking with Claudine, preparing "twins" for the
show as the finished product. She acquired wonderful experience in the Sonoma
wine country at Jordan Winery while working in the winery kitchen preparing the
very kind of food she hoped to prepare upon returning to her own business.
Wine and food pairing were an essential part of her education
while at CCA and while working at the Jordan Winery. Having served as President
of the Wine Club almost the entire time while enrolled at CCA (surprise!!), she
was able to help coordinate and lead wine tours and trips for students attending
the school. Char loves sharing her expertise and cooking experience, recognizing,
"We really do learn to cook by the seat of our pants, and we can have a
lot more fun than that!"
Char is in her 10th year in providing cooking classes and catering in Spokane, Washington. It remains an amazing dream come true that she is doing everything she pictured herself doing in this business…classes, fine dining, and cooking tours. It just demonstrates that if you can dream it, you can do it. Never underestimate the power of visualization!!
